Flight Paramedic: Part Time

Job Description

Bismarck Air Medical is a vital service to Bismarck/Mandan and the surrounding Region. The function of the flight paramedic is to provide high quality critical care including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by Bismarck Air Medical, LLC and within scope of practice; assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize the care needed for safe transport of the critical patient to the appropriate facility working in collaboration with flight nurse partner; be responsible to carrying out the mission and goals of Bismarck Air Medical, LLC assuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responds to all required urgent or emergent calls, as directed by the charge medic, to provide efficient and immediate care to the ill, critically ill, and injured.
  • Transport via aircraft and or other life support units and perform medical evaluations and treatment within scope of practice. This includes but not limited to: IV therapy, medication administration, use of cardiac monitor, pacemaker, defibrillator, ventilator, and other equipment as trained.
  • Perform pre-hospital care according to Scope of Practice and/or course learned materials, Standing Orders and/or Physician Orders, Bismarck Air Medical, LLC Clinical Guidelines, and according to requirements of the Medical Director.
  • Establish and maintain communications to the referring and receiving facility or scene per policy guidelines.
  • Maintain competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills.
  • Communicate educational needs to supervisor.
  • Knowledge in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Bismarck Air Medical, LLC.
  • Responsible to inspect equipment and to maintain readiness. Check flight gear and replace needed equipment per policy.
  • Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to insure repair of equipment as directed by policy.
  • Work to keep all life support aircraft in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Complete all PCR forms and paperwork as indicated in a neat and timely fashion.
  • Contact supervisor regarding concerns and situations beyond your control.
  • Understand appropriate radio procedures.
  • Maintain neat appearance and observe professional ethics.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere. Must be able to communicate and behave in a manner that gets along with the public, patients and their families, co-workers, and personnel involved in the health care field.

Required Qualifications:  

  • At least 3-years of critical care experience
  • Must display evidence of good health.
  • Must possess ability to lift and carry stretcher with patient.
  • Must display motor coordination in administering care to the critically ill and injured.
  • Must demonstrate emotional stability, psychological adaptability, and tact in dealing with a variety of patients.
  • Show good judgement under stress.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to give and receive verbal and written directions and instructions.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance, appropriate grooming and complete uniform.
  • Must be able to adapt to a variety of working conditions.
  • Must remain proficient with all procedures in the SOP’s. Will pass competencies’ process to ensure high standard of care for transports. Must possess dexterity and physical coordination in carrying, lifting, extrication, and climbing.
  • Maintain skill level designated by Bismarck Air Medical, LLC through required education, training, and in-service.
  • Respond as instructed for flight duty within twenty minutes or within a timely, safe fashion when notified of flight mission.
  • Wear and maintain a flight suit uniform as designated by Bismarck Air Medical, LLC.
  • Air medical transport experience preferred.
  • Experience with advanced cardiac devices such as balloon pumps, impella, ecmo, preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved Paramedic course
  • BLS for Health Care Provider Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • PALS Certification
  • ITLS or PHTLS Certification
  • ATLS monitored within 2 years or as scheduled course allows
  • Nationally registered through NREMT
  • State registered through NDDoH at the Paramedic level
  • Must maintain current certification and licensure as required by NDDoH
  • Must Complete FC-P or CC-P within 12 months of hire (24 for Part-Time).
